When I first came out to Grace Place, I was hiding behind so many
masks of self-confidence, fear of rejection, and low self-worth.
What I thought was going to be a simple, fun year of getting to
know Jesus together with a bunch of young guys ended up setting
me on a course that would completely transform my life.
I remember being in the thick of sin: struggling with pornography
and failing my academics, lying to hide everything that was wrong,
and doing whatever I could to keep leadership from finding out.
When I did come forward with everything, I was met with
unconditional love, brutal honesty, and a representation of Jesus’
love. It was offensive! I had built up judgments in my mind about
others, and I was allowing that to affect my relationship with God.
What I discovered in this place of love and correction was grace: a
force and empowerment to move beyond my current
circumstances! Instead of having another one-time conversation that
glossed over the real issue, I was met with consistent love and
discipline.
I have since been completely set free from an addiction that had
bound me since my teen years, have grown into my identity as a
man of God, and am walking in the light and truth! Not only have I
been set free, but now I have been able to bring others into
freedom as I have mentored the young men God placed in my life. I
thank God often for Grace Place, Daniel Newton, and those who
have poured into me. I really don’t know where my life would be
without them.
